The Circuit Breaker And Your Home
What is the circuit breaker and what does it do?
The circuit breaker is an important part of your home and should be monitored for when it is time to replace it.
Even though the circuit breaker is not a noticeable part of the home, it plays an important role in the electrical functioning of your home. Circuit breakers act as the automatic shut-off when there are dangerous electrical problems. Some of the problems that would cause a circuit breaker to trip would be overloaded circuits or short circuits. Breakers also sometimes trip if there isn’t a problem. For breakers that look melted, cracked, or broken contact us for an appointment to check out your circuit breaker. You should also contact us if your breaker continues to mysteriously trip.

Is it time to replace the circuit breaker?
How will I know when it's time to replace my circuit breaker?
There are ways to tell if your circuit breaker is in need of being replaced.
If you don’t know if your circuit breaker needs to be replaced, there are simple steps you can take to check for signs of needing a new breaker. Some steps you can use to check your breaker are:
- Turning off and unplugging all appliances on the circuit’s breaker
- Flip the breaker off and back on firmly
- Plug in a small appliance and see if the breaker trips
If the breaker does trip while there is a load barely running, then more than likely you have a short. Once you notice that your circuit breakers are tripping, contact our professionals and we will set up an appointment.

Need new breakers?
Where do the circuit breakers need to be installed?
When replacing new circuit breakers in your home, knowing where they are placed in your home will help with knowing which ones need to be replaced.
Once a professional comes to your home to install your new circuit breakers they will check all of the areas where the breakers are installed, which are:
- Bathrooms
- Kitchens
- Wet Bar Sinks
- Garages
- Crawlspaces
- Accessory Buildings
- Unfinished Basements
- Outdoors
When replacing the breakers, your certified electrician will either replace your Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI) or the Arc-Fault Interrupters (AFCI). The GFCI breakers will generally be installed near sinks, plumbing fixtures, and any other place that has water and moisture. AFCI breakers are used as fire-prevention breakers and monitor electrical circuits. With there being a chance that older homes not having AFCI or GFCI interrupters, this means it is time for an upgrade to fit legal compliance.
